Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s Special Visit To Colombia

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, begun their trip to Columbia early this week. Francia Márquez, Vice President, graciously welcomed them to the South American country.

After receiving an invitation from HE Francia Márquez, the couple began their official trip to Columbia on August 15, 2024. Márquez is the nation’s first black woman to hold this position.

With a warm welcome, HE Francia Márquez welcomed Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to her people. She revealed the reason for the couple’s trip to Columbia and spoke about knowing them and their lives during a press conference.

As a matter of fact, HE Márquez has been keeping an eye on the couple from afar by watching their 2022 docuseries on Netflix.

The six-part series depicts their childhoods, relationships, marriage, and departure from royal duties, among other things. It became the biggest week ever for the debut of a documentary on a streaming service. In 2020, the couple agreed to a long-term contract.

“How did I meet Harry and Meghan? HE Francia Márquez revealed,

“I first encountered them through the media, and I particularly watched the Netflix series about their lives and their story, which deeply moved me”

The Vice President continued:

“It motivated me to say, ‘This is a woman who deserves to visit our country and share her story,’ and undoubtedly, her visit will strengthen so many women around the world.”

Francia, who is also the Minister for Equality and Equity in Columbia, had previously invited Meghan to the Day of Afro-descendant Women on July 25, but she was unable to attend.

Prior, Meghan Markle had granted an interview with the PEOPLE that the trip gave personal significance to her Nigeria trip after she figured out that she is 43% Nigerian through a lineage test. She explained that in order to tell her children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, more about her Nigerian heritage, she had to dig deep into her roots.

She revealed that the entire trip to Nigeria in May 2024 with Prince Harry had a personal component. Meghan said that learning about “my heritage, that I’m able to share with my children” is a very special thing to do as a mother on Mother’s Day, the final day of her stay.

In Columbia, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle spent their first day at an Insight Session at a school in Bogotá after receiving a warm welcome from Francia. After that, they went to the summit with experts, activists, and other people who wanted to improve and make the environment better.
