
President Akufo-Addo has appointed Mr Michael Asare Bediako as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Millennium Development Authority (MiDA) in accordance with Article 195 (1) of the Constitution and Section 15 (2) of the Millennium Development Authority Act, 2006 (Act 702).
The appointment is contained in a letter dated 12 September 2024 and signed by the secretary to the President, Nana Bediatuo Asante, and copied to the Vice President, Chief of Staff, Minister for Finance, Minister for Food and Agriculture, Minister for Trade and Industry, Minister for Local Government, Decentralisation, and Rural Development, Chairperson of the Public Service Commission and the Board chairperson of the Millennium Development Authority.
Michael’s appointment is for a period of four (4) years, effective 11 September 2024.

Michael Asare Bediako hold a Masters in Public Administration from the Harvard University Kennedy School of Government, United States, MSc in International Finance from the University of Amsterdam Business School, B.A. in Law and International Relations and LLM in Corporate and Commercial law from the Maastricht University, in The Netherlands.
He is described as a dynamic CEO of a multinational alternative asset manager passionate about green and early brown stage opportunities that drive sustainable development, with a strong track record as a Board Member, co-founder and Executive Director of various impactful ventures, combined with experience as a Special Assistant and Technical Advisor to the Finance Minister.

Following the President’s directives, MiDA will now pivot towards third main objectives: managing other national development programmes, including those funded by the Government of Ghana, Development Partners, or both. MiDA’s expanded mandate includes oversight and Management of National Development Programmes.
MiDA will oversee and manage large-scale development programmes beyond the Millennium Challenge Compacts. This will include the Government of Ghana’s flagship projects and donor-funded initiatives that align with MiDA’s expertise. Three key programmes to be managed by MiDA under this new mandate are the Economic Enclaves Project (EEP), Digital Youth Villages and the Ghana Cares “Obaatanpa” Programme.
MiDA has been designated the coordinating entity for the Economic Enclaves Project, a large-scale agricultural initiative aimed at facilitating the participation of private sector investors and de-risking commercial farming operations.
In this capacity, MiDA will coordinate efforts among key governmental ministries, including the Ministries of Food and Agriculture, Energy, and Roads and Highways, collaborate with the Ghana Armed Forces, particularly the 48 Engineer Regiment for land development and with the Ghana Irrigation Development Authority for land surveys and irrigation infrastructure and ensure access to agricultural equipment, certified seeds, and other essential inputs.
The Digital Youth Village (DYV) which is another area MiDA will be championing aims to create an enabling environment and a dedicated address for accelerating digital entrepreneurship growth among Ghana’s youth.
The initiative focuses on key areas such as entrepreneurship, funding innovation, developing digital skills, and forming industry partnerships in agritech, fintech, edutech, health tech, and retail tech. MiDA will act as the Digital Youth Village (DYV) coordination and programme management office.
MiDA’s responsibilities include; Construction supervision and reporting, coordination of the innovation operating model, development of a sustainable funding model, stakeholder management.

MiDA will also oversee the implementation phase of the Ghana Cares “Obaatanpa” Programme, an economic revitalisation initiative launched in 2020. MiDA’s responsibilities include: Ensuring the alignment of all activities related to the programme’s economic recovery goals, managing partnerships with the Ministry of Finance and other relevant stakeholders to achieve the desired economic outcomes.
