Jason Derulo, an American singer who began writing songs at the age of sixteen, has disclosed who inspired him to pursue a career in music.
He shared a number of details about his career in music while on the “Jennifer Hudson” show.
The singer, who has won numerous awards, claims that he did everything he could to get into the music industry.
Jason stated during the interview, which was conducted in front of a sizable audience, that he began his career as a songwriter rather than an artist.
He revealed that, because of his inexperience, record producers refused to give him the chance and recognition he deserved.
“These producers were rather interested in working with ‘popping’ people— as in, well-known and branded artists. So I went like, I am a songwriter and it worked, so I started getting sessions”, Jason said.
As he continued to keep tabs on everything pertaining to the late superstar, he continued to look up to Michael Jackson, the King of Pop.
“The biggest artist I looked up to was Michael Jackson. ‘Thriller’ was one of the albums I was able to get hands on, and that changed my life. That was like the blueprint. I had to physically tell myself, you can’t listen to this no more. This is too much”.
‘Michael Jackson is the greatest of all time. God rest his soul’, he said.
During the conversation with Hudson on Monday, November 11, Jason went on to say that he was initially unable to write songs for himself. He therefore had to physically convince himself to buy Jackson’s “Thriller” album.
It has been a life-changing episode ever since.
