Former First Lady of the United States of America, Michelle Obama has discosed that, she has been experiencing “Low-grade depression”, which is incited by the coronavirus pandemic, prejudice in the US and what she portrays as the “hypocrisy” of the Trump administration.
Michelle Obama uncovered this in her second episode of her digital broadcast (podcast) on Wednesday 5th August, 2020 that she has been encountering this downturn.
As indicated by her, it is exceptionally dispiriting to see her to be in this condition as her sleep has even been affected. She keeps awakening in the night all because she is very stressed over something, making her a bit ‘heavy’.
She expressed that:
‘We’ve all been dealing with a lot of change in our lives and our communities. And I couldn’t think of anyone better to talk to about this moment then my friend’.
“I’ve gone through those emotional highs and lows that I think everybody feels, where you just don’t feel yourself, and sometimes … there has been a week or so where I had to surrender to that, and not be so hard on myself,” she said on podcast.
Meanwhile, some psychological wellness backing groups have welcomed Obama’s remarks. They are glad Obama is speaking openly about how she is dealing with her downturn. The American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD) additionally tweeted in response to Michelle Obama’s remarks by saying:
“Talking about how we manage our mental health, especially at times like these, reduces stigma and creates a more inclusive society.”
Obama has also communicated how it has been debilitating to wake up day by day to reports of Black People being dehumanized, hurt or killed as Black Lives Matter fights proceed over the US, reignited by the police killing of George Floyd in May 2020.
Besides all these, Michelle Obama has said that, the pandemic is a chance to choose how you want to decide how you to appear in the new world. She finished up by saying: her most prominent expectation is that people start a normal life.
