After eight months into 2024, the total value of mobile money transactions has reached GH1.775 trillion, according to data from the Bank of Ghana.
This is compared with GH¢1.031 trillion the same time in 2023.
The country has a chance to expand financial inclusion thanks to the rise in mobile money transactions.
This also demonstrates that the Electronic Transaction Levy is attracting a lot of support.
The value of mobile money transactions decreased from GH198.4 billion in January 2024 to GH195.8 billion in February 2024, according to the Bank of Ghana’s Summary of Economic and Financial Data for September 2024.
It increased to GH203.0 billion in April 2024 after a slight decrease in March 2024. In May 2024, it increased once more to GH234.3 billion, but in June 2024, it decreased slightly to GH224.0 billion.
However, it continued to rise, reaching GH264.9 billion in July 2024 and GH273.6 billion in August 2024, respectively.
