More Than 1,200 Students Graduate From University Of Ghana

The University of Ghana held two congregational ceremonies for 1,236 students who successfully completed their respective study programs during the 2023/2024 academic year.

During the morning session, degrees were awarded to 92 PhDs, 253 undergraduate and post-first-degree students from the University of Ghana School of Law, and 253 students from the University of Ghana Medical School.

At the afternoon session, eight hundred ninety-one (891) graduates from various Masters programs also graduated.

Prof. Nana Akua Anyidoho and Ms. Doris Adwoa Kisiwa Ansah, members of the University Council who represented Mrs. Mary Chinery-Hesse as Chancellor, presided over the events.

In her opening remarks, the Chancellor praised Management for the recent successful launch of the 2024-2029 Strategic Plan, which places an emphasis on creating an atmosphere that encourages each student’s personal development and academic success. She pledged her support in this regard to encourage students to succeed in a global society that is becoming increasingly complex and innovative.

On behalf of the Chancellor, Ms. Doris Adwoa Kisiwa Ansah presided over the afternoon session to congratulate the graduates. The Chancellor praised the graduating class for their dedication, unwavering dedication, and hard work.

During the morning session, Prof. Gordon Akanzuwine Awandare, Pro Vice-Chancellor in Charge of Academic and Student Affairs, and Prof. Felix Ankomah Asante, Pro-Vice-Chancellor in Charge of Research, Innovation, and Development, represented Vice-Chancellor Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo.

In the address that Prof. Amfo read to the Congregation on her behalf, she talked about what happened at the university over the past year.

She reiterated the University’s launch of the new Strategic Plan and the outdooring of three important documents, highlighting the Plan’s commitment to sustainability, diversity, and inclusion to keep the University of Ghana at the forefront of global academic and research excellence.

Over the next five years, the focus of the Strategic Plan will be on achieving global impact through innovative research, teaching, and learning with a technology-driven and people-centered approach.

explaining the five strategic pillars of the new Strategic Plan, which are Transformative Student Experience and Relevant Research; dedication to the staff and faculty; The Vice-Chancellor provided justification for the university’s decision to revise its statutes in order to bring them into line with emerging national and university-level policies and laws.

These justifications included engagement, partnerships, sustainable resource mobilization, and stewardship.

Prof. Amfo said that in an effort to ensure the security and safety of students, staff, and property, the university has implemented Electronic Access in Traditional Halls and some units. It is anticipated that the security and safety of all University community members, as well as personal and University property, will significantly improve when the Directorate fully takes off later this year.

In her speech, Prof. Amfo talked about creative projects that aim to help students discover their creative and entrepreneurial potential and give them the skills they need to succeed in a world that is changing quickly.

“As we celebrate your accomplishments, we look forward to the positive impact you will make in your respective fields. Congratulations once again and best wishes for the next phase of your lives”, the Vice Chancellor stated.

At the ceremony, the following guests spoke: Mrs. Shirley Tony-Kum, Corporate Communications Manager at Vivo Energy Ghana, and Prof. Muhammed Tawfiq Ladan, Director-General and CEO of the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies.
