
The Recording Academy released its 2024 Membership Report a day before the opening of first-round voting for the 67th GRAMMY Awards, adding over 3,000 new members, including over 3,000 female members.
It revealed that it has added in excess of 3,000 women voting members since 2019, surpassing its objective of adding 2,500 women voting members by 2025.
This achievement comes under five years after the Recording Academy put forth the objective of expanding portrayal among women voters.
Since the Recording Academy introduced its new membership model in 2019, the Academy has added thousands of new members, and now 66% of the GRAMMY electorate has joined, indicating a significant shift in the voting body.
The following were some key takeaways from the Academy’s membership report:
Women’s empowerment:
By the year 2025, the Recording Academy aimed to have 2,500 women voting members. With the addition of more than 3,000 women voting members, the Academy has achieved this objective. The number of women voting members has increased by 27% since 2019.
Diversity:
Since 2019, there has been a significant increase in the number of voting members from diverse backgrounds represented. The proportion of voting members who identify as People of Color has increased by 65 percent.
The proportion of Black or African American+ members voting has increased by 90%.
The increase of 43% in the proportion of voting members who are Hispanic or Latino+. There is also 100 percent growth in the level of Asian or Pacific Islander+ voting Members.
New Creators:
About 8,700 creators have become voting members of the Recording Academy since 2019. Since the GRAMMYs’ inaugural New Member Class in 2019, 66% of the voting electorate is new.
In 2024, 72% of the new invitees acknowledged their solicitations to join the Recording Academy, prompting a record 2,800+ all out new members.

The voting members of the Recording Academy represent the entire range of talent in the music industry.

Among the 13 creative fields represented by the voting members are songwriters, composers, producers, engineers, vocalists, conductors, and others.
With members representing over 22 distinct music genres, the breadth of genre representation is significant.
Meanwhile, voting for the GRAMMY Awards’ first round began on October 4 and ends today, October 15.
The voting process is open to all voting members, including new members of the class of 2024. GRAMMY candidates will be announced on November 8, 2024.
