MTN Recognized As The Best African Brand For The People

In a new category of its annual awards based on businesses shifting from profit to purpose, MTN Group has been named the top African brand that is doing good for people, society, and the environment.

Brand Africa also named MTN as the most respected African brand reviewed unexpectedly.

Ralph Mupita, president and CEO of MTN Group, said,

The new award category recognizes MTN’s efforts to promote sustainable societal development, empower individuals, and protect the environment. MTN Group demonstrates its commitment to improving the lives of Africans through its extensive array of initiatives and alliances.

Their efforts in this regard in 2022 include ensuring greater digital inclusion by expanding broadband coverage to nearly 88% of the population in the markets—including rural areas—recognizing that commitment must be translated into action, contributing around R149 billion in monetary worth added to society; and aiming to achieve net zero emissions by 2040 by reducing greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 13.9%.

In its “South Africa 100 2023” survey in April 2023, Brand Finance awarded MTN the highest “sustainability perceptions value” of all companies, maintaining the Group’s position as South Africa’s most valuable brand.
