MTV VMAs 2024: Tyla Gives A Special Acceptance Speech After Win

Tyla took home the — Best Afrobeat VMA award for her hit tune ‘Water’ during this year’s MTV Video Music Awards.

She offered her thanks and said that it was a huge moment for “Africa and African music.” According to her, the impact her famous tune has had worldwide is a confirmation that “African music can be a popular music as well!”

“This is just so special, but also bittersweet because I know there’s a tendency to group all African artists under Afrobeat. It’s a thing, and even though Afrobeats have opened so many doors for us, African music is so diverse. It’s more than just Afrobeats.”

Tyla went on by expressing that she hails from South Africa and represents her culture. She gave shouts to the Afrobeats performers who were also in the category with her and said, “I love you all.”

Meanwhile, Tyla has released the music video of her most recent track, ‘Breath Me’, which adopts an creative approach to exhibit the heartfelt connection between a couple. The music video, shot in Osaka, Japan, proceeds with ‘Truth And Dare’ music video.
