Mudryk Suspended From Football After A Positive Drug Test

Mykhailo Mudryk’s problems off the field at Chelsea FC have gotten worse after he failed a drug test.

Following the Football Association’s notification of a positive drug test, the Chelsea winger has been placed on provisional suspension from playing football.

The 23-year-old hasn’t played since a Europa Conference League game on November 28 and hasn’t appeared in the team’s last five games. Enzo Maresca, the club’s manager, attributed the Ukrainian’s absence to illness.

According to FA regulations, a player who receives notification of a test result may subsequently face a provisional suspension. Following that, they can reply with an explanation before a decision is made on a potential charge.

It is believed that Chelsea has opened an investigation. Ukrainian reports claim that the material is meldonium. It is well known that Mudryk had a clear test in August of this year, and he maintains that his behavior has not changed since.

Since meldonium is unavailable in the UK, it is thought that any possible contamination may have occurred abroad. Mudryk is still awaiting the outcome of a “B” sample to see if it supports the conclusions of his “A” sample.

Chelsea, meanwhile, released a statement early on Tuesday, December 17, stating:

‘Chelsea Football Club can confirm the Football Association recently contacted our player Mykhailo Mudryk concerning an adverse finding in a routine urine test”.

‘Both the Club and Mykhailo fully support The FA’s testing programme and all our players, including Mykhailo, are regularly tested. Mykhailo has confirmed categorically that he has never knowingly used any banned substances. Both Mykhailo and the Club will now work with the relevant authorities to establish what has caused the adverse finding”.

‘The Club will not be commenting any further.’

Shortly after the club’s social media statement, the player himself broke his silence, saying that the negative result had come as a “complete shock.”

‘I can confirm that I have been notified that a sample I provided to The FA contained a banned substance. This has come as a complete shock as I have never knowingly used any banned substances or broken any rules, and am working closely with my team to investigate how this could have happened”.

‘I know that I have not done anything wrong and remain hopeful that I will be back on the pitch soon. I cannot say any more now due to the confidentiality of the process, but I will as soon as I can (blue heart emoji)”, Mudryk posted on Instagram.

The player hasn’t been accused of doping, though, according to some legal experts.

Despite being a consistent player in the Conference League, Mudryk only appeared in one Premier League game this season. He scored in a 2-0 victory at Germans Heidenheim during his most recent appearance.

He was not included in the matchday squad for games against Southampton, Tottenham, Brentford, and last week’s Conference League trip to Kazakhstan to play Astana after being an unutilized substitute against Aston Villa.

Meanwhile, Mudryk has not been spotted working out at Cobham.

When Mudryk moved from Shakhtar Donetsk to Stamford Bridge early last year for a reported £88 million, he was one of Europe’s most sought-after players, and Arsenal was reportedly among those interested in signing him.

In a busy January transfer window, he signed an eight-year contract with his new team. However, only 26 of his 53 Premier League appearances have been as a starter, and the player has never really established himself in his manager’s starting lineup.

Even though there hasn’t been much league action this season, Mudryk has contributed to goals in every European league phase game, scoring three goals in as many games.
