
When the National Democratic Congress administration takes office on January 7, 2025, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, the incoming vice president, is likely to present the temporary budget statement in Parliament, according to the NDC’s caucus in Parliament.
The outgoing government’s failure to deliver the Expenditure in Advance of Appropriation, which would have given the incoming administration a three-month window to spend public funds before the full budget statement is presented to Parliament, has prompted the party to voice its concerns.
There have been concerns about funding arrangements for early next year since the current government has not yet presented the 2025 mini-budget.
Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Minority Leader in Parliament, had previously expressed disappointment over the government’s failure to present the budget in a statement dated December 20, 2024.
Dr. Ato Forson says there are actions to deal with the development. According to him, the Vice-President may submit the Expenditure in Advance of Appropriation to this House at any time following his inauguration on January 7, 2025, and Parliament will be duly established to expedite its approval, even though there won’t be a Minister of Finance on that date.
