In order to stay in Brazil and maintain his focus on the 2026 World Cup, which he has stated will be his final, Neymar has formally extended his stay at Santos.
Neymar agreed to a six-month contract with Santos, which would keep him at his boyhood club until the end of 2025, with an extension option.

The Brazilian player has made it plain that he wants to play in the 2026 World Cup and is committed to attending the world’s largest football competition for the fourth time.
Referred to as a “Neymar project,” club president Marcelo Teixeira hopes to retain him through the World Cup in order to improve his form and performance at home.
From team performance to marketing, Santos views Neymar as a pillar that will last at least until the middle of 2026. Neymar and Santos seem to agree on sticking local for the time being, despite rumors of joining European teams or possibly Inter Miami for a reunion with Messi or Suárez.
Neymar’s current deal with Santos runs until December 2025, and he is concentrating on getting fit and playing well for the upcoming World Cup qualifying round. The 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America is probably going to be his last major competition if he can make it.
