Nick Kyrgios Says He Is Tired Of Playing Tennis

Nick Kyrgios has acknowledged that he is “tired of playing tennis” and does not anticipate that his career will continue for a significant amount of time when he returns to the court. He revealed this while speaking on the ‘On Purpose with Jay Shetty’ podcast.

The former Wimbledon finalist has battled with injuries and mental health issues, therefore figures now is the ideal time to quit. He explained why he doesn’t think his career will last very long.

Nick Kyrgios believes that his well-documented mental health issues have hampered his career for a few seasons and that he will only play for one or two more years when he returns to the court.

The 28-year-old has battled with knee, foot and wrist injuries since pulling out of this year’s Australian Open almost too late and has played just a single ATP Tour match since the Japan Open in October 2022.

The Australian affirmed that he wouldn’t play in his home Grand Slam for the second progressive year and there was all the more terrible news in a recent webcast for fans hoping he could play on well into his 30s.

He stated that all he wants to do is play for another one to two years, reach the top, and follow his own path.

“I would hate to have another surgery or anything like that. I think I’ve still got the ability to have a good one to two years and then that’s it.

“I think I’ll be at peace with everything I’ve achieved and…I’m going to have to just say: ‘Look, to everyone out there who wants me to play more, you’re just going to have to be okay with me not playing anymore’, he said.

The pinnacle of his career so far was without a doubt his race to the Wimbledon final in 2022. The former world No 13 is hesitant to get back to court until he is fit and solid enough to imitate the form he displayed at the All England Club.

“If I had a bit of a normal career and I flew under the radar, I don’t feel I’d feel this way, but those couple years really, I think, put a lot on my age,” Kyrgios said. “It’s just hard, I am tired – I’m tired of playing tennis.

“I’m going to the gym, I’m doing my rehab. These surgeries aren’t just like little surgeries, they’re like you might have something seriously wrong with your body and it takes time.

“I’m only human…it takes months and months of strength, consistency, diligence to get back to playing tennis at that high level again.

“I don’t want to get back on tour and just play decent, I was competing for a Grand Slam, so I want to get back to that level. So, it might take a bit more time.”
