“No Journalist Will Be Subjected To Retaliation Under President Mahama”

Felix Kwakye Ofosu

President John Dramani Mahama’s spokesperson and Minister of State for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has refuted claims that recent attacks on journalists are the result of the Mahama administration. The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), which has documented seven such events since President Mahama assumed office, made these accusations and called the situation “unusual.”

President Mahama is a strong supporter of press freedom and would never tolerate attacks on journalists, Kwakye Ofosu responded. He emphasized the President’s long-standing good connections with the press, pointing out that Mahama is a GJA member in good standing and has regularly interacted with reporters, including some who have criticized his government.

Kwakye Ofosu further promised that no journalist will be subjected to retaliation for their reporting under President Mahama’s direction.

“No single journalist in this country will be attacked because they have spoken against the government. The day that happens, I will hear it and leave government because it won’t happen.”, he said.

Additionally, he urged reporters who are harmed to seek compensation through the proper legal channels. He restated the government’s resolve to back initiatives that guarantee justice in these situations.
