On April 30, 2025, former Tamale Central MP Inusah Fuseini called out the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for what he called the politicization of Ghana’s judiciary in an interview with Nana Yaw Kesse on Peace FM’s Morning Show.
He claimed that the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) had been “hijacked” by the NPP during their rule, compromising its credibility and independence.
He said that a large number of the Association’s lawyers supported the NPP.
“As a member of the Association, I can attest that the majority of the attorneys in the group had sympathies for the NPP. And it is a fact”.
Amid calls for Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo’s dismissal, Fuseini voiced alarm over the NPP’s vigorous defense of her, claiming that such political party engagement erodes public confidence in the judiciary’s neutrality and gives the impression that it is biased.
He underlined that political parties should avoid taking on positions that would jeopardize the independence of the judiciary, even though it is acceptable to start procedures to remove a Chief Justice in circumstances of suspected misbehavior.
