The ongoing “Thank You Tour” by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has drawn a lot of criticism from both inside and outside the party, prompting calls for its suspension.
After the party’s 2024 election loss, former Chief of Staff Kwadwo Mpiani called the tour a “misplaced priority” and suggested it may worsen internal divides rather than foster togetherness.
Dr. Kwesi Amakye-Boateng, a political expert, also expressed similar worries, saying that the tour seems to be “opening wounds” rather than promoting healing.
He suggested that the NPP rename the project an “apology tour” in order to actually address complaints and win back the support of disenchanted supporters.
When Kennedy Agyapong, a well-known party leader, left the tour following a violent altercation with a supporter, more controversy erupted.
Senior party member Boakye Agyarko has also cautioned that the tour could cause the NPP to implode internally as a result of mounting tensions and shifting blame.

Additionally, some claim that the 2024 flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, may have sidelined other party factions by leading the tour in an untimely manner.
Before launching a public outreach campaign, the NPP has been urged to concentrate on introspection and address the issues that led to their electoral defeat instead of the tour.
The NPP has not yet formally disclosed any changes to the itinerary or format of the tour. The party may need to reconsider its strategy for unity-building and post-election participation, though, given the growing criticism.
