Solomon Owusu of the Movement for Change political party has expressed his displeasure on Angel FM on April 29, 2025, saying he could not understand why the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is going to protest against the rule of law in relation to Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Torkornoo’s dismissal.
Mr. Owusu stated that since the Chief Justice herself is more knowledgeable about the law than they are, it makes no sense to start this. The outspoken political analyst went on to say that, the CJ had always remarked, “No one can fight the law,” so what is wrong with the NPP?
Owusu stated bluntly that the NPP ought to identify a specific statute that prohibits President Mahama from dismissing the Chief Justice.
“We will all participate in their May 5 march if they can genuinely articulate the legislation that forbids the removal of the CJ. Have you noticed, Saddick, that practically every political party that joined in the campaign is pulling out? “They are aware that it will not hold water,” he said.
He went on to say:
“The Judiciary has entered the whole process, which is my biggest disappointment, but I am not shocked if the NPP is doing this since they are engaging in partisan politics. I am startled because they know the law far too well. They are not justified in demonstrating this”.
He continued by saying that the NPP should bear responsibility if the CJ is fired since they have made her situation worse.
Political Parties To Protest The Suspension Of The CJ Nationwide
Meanwhile, the NPP and roughly five other political parties have declared their intention to stage a protest in order to prevent the President from dismissing the Chief Justice on May 5.
Solomon Owusu has been prominent in Ghana’s political debate and is well-known for his political criticism.
