President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has dismissed the Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Dodzie Numekevor, with immediate effect, as indicated by reports.
The decision allegedly follows CAF’s withdrawal of Baba Yara Sports Stadium license from hosting International matches.
According to the reports, President Akufo-Addo demanded the sacking of people liable for leasing the Baba Yara Stadium for a church program for six days before the AFCON 2025 qualifier against Angola.
The President also purportedly told the Sports Minister he will be queried should Ghana play any of its home matches beyond this country.
The Sports Minister, Mustapha Ussif, through his Chief Director, William Kartay Caesar questioned Mr Numekevor, requesting that he gives reasons why he shouldn’t be held responsible for heading an authority which has humiliated the office of the president and the country at large.
Mr Numekevor had Wednesday, September 18, 2024, to answer the questions, but President Akufo-Addo who seems disappointed with the condition of sports administration under the NSA’s authority, relieved him off his duties Tuesday evening (September 17).
He had shut down the Baba Yara, Accra, and Cape Coast stadiums for maintenance before he was fired. It was in response in growing concerns to the bad nature of the facilities.

CAF recommended reconstruction of the Baba Yara pitch and noted the poor state of the Accra and Cape Coast Sports stadia in a letter to the Ghana Football Association on September 10.
The Ghana Football Association was directed to choose an approved venue outside Ghana to host Sudan on matchday 3 in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers.
Ghana is as of now thinking about another country if authorities can’t persuade any of its facilities to host Sudan.
Dr. Dodzie Numekevor had been filling in as interim Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA) since 26 February 2024, after taking over from Professor Peter Twumasi, who stood firm on the foothold for six years.
