On June 2, 2025, Akwasi Addai Odike of United Progressive Party (UPP) made serious allegations during an appearance on Angel FM’s morning show.
The politician and businessman claimed that Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, told him he would never be allowed to file for the presidency in the 2024 Ghana general elections, which were held in December 2024.
According to Odike, despite the threat, he attempted to submit his nomination forms. However, he was met with resistance.
He stated that Dr. Siribour Quarcoo, the then Director of Electoral Services of the Electoral Commission told him there was “a big hand” blocking his political party’s activities—an apparent reference to interference from influential political actors.
He said, this raises concerns about the integrity and fairness of the electoral process, particularly regarding access to candidacy for smaller political parties and independent candidates.
