The United States Vice President Kamala Harris has secured her position as the Democratic presidential nominee for the 2024 election, making her the first Black and Asian American woman to be nominated for the Democratic Party’s nomination. She will officially lead the Democrats into the elections in November.
On Friday, August 2, the 59-year-old officially secured her place in the race after receiving at least 2,350 of the Democratic delegates’ votes, which was the majority.
Harris has so far received donations totaling more than $300 million. Several Celebrities as well as fellow Democrats have shown their support for the former prosecutor.
She wrote in a tweet after the nomination,
“I am honored to be the Democratic nominee for President of the United States. I will officially accept the nomination next week. This campaign is about people coming together, fueled by love of country, to fight for the best of who we are.”
After President Joe Biden announced that he would not be running for re-election, Harris began her campaign for the White House last month. Following half a month of public requests from members from his party and other well known people to nonconformist, the 81-year-old lawmaker declared his underwriting for his VP.
“My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it’s been the best decision I’ve made,” Biden tweeted on July 21. “Today, I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year.”
Donald Trump, the republican candidate, has publicly criticized Harris for a variety of reasons, including her demeanor, policies, and beliefs. Harris is running against Trump.
Harris is currently selecting her running mate ahead of the Democratic National Committee convention. Many people are speculating about some top candidates, all of whom supported her right away when Harris went out on the campaign trail.
