“Okudzeto Ablakwa’s U.S. Embassy Exposé Is A Political Ploy”

Kwasi Poku

Tema West’s New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairman, Kwasi Poku, has launched a scathing critique of Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa (MP), suggesting that the latter’s recent revelations about alleged corrupt activities at Ghana’s embassy in the United States are driven by political self-interest rather than a genuine concern for accountability.

Speaking on the Angel Morning Show on Angel TV on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, Poku accused the North Tongu legislator of engaging in what he described as a “ploy to get jobs for the jobless NDC supporters (“Jobs for the boys”).

“Ablakwa’s so-called exposé is nothing more than political theater. He is not doing this for the good of the country. It’s all part of a grand scheme to remove people in positions abroad and replace them with his preferred candidates,” Poku stated.

The NPP Chairman’s remarks come in response to a series of social media posts and press statements issued by Ablakwa, in which he alleged that top officials at Ghana’s embassy in Washington, D.C., have been involved in financial mismanagement and other corrupt practices. The claims have sparked public discourse and prompted calls for government action.

However, Kwasi Poku insists the timing and tone of Ablakwa’s campaign are suspicious, especially given the upcoming election year.

“It is quite clear that this is more about political patronage than patriotism,” he added.

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has consistently defended his actions as part of his oversight responsibility as a Minister and a commitment to transparency in Ghana’s diplomatic missions.

The controversy has intensified calls for an independent investigation into the operations of Ghana’s foreign missions, with civil society groups urging the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to address the allegations comprehensively and impartially.

Many Ghanaians are watching closely to see whether Ablakwa’s claims will result in concrete actions—or if, as Poku suggests, the episode is merely a strategic move.
