Oscars 2025: The Reasons Why Doja Cat’s Performance Disappointed Fans

At the Oscars, Doja Cat, Raye, and Lisa from Blackpink performed a tribute to James Bond, but the performances generated conflicting responses.

Doja Cat, Lisa from Blackpink, and British singer Raye all performed covers of classic Bond theme tunes as part of the homage. However, some fans were let down because they were hoping to hear about the franchise’s future.

Doja Cat sang Diamonds Are Forever, which Shirley Bassey first sang for the 1971 James Bond movie. The singer sang while wearing a gown adorned with crystals, but she later acknowledged on social media that her vocals were impacted by nervousness.

“I put a lot of work into it, but the nerves got to me, and a b**ch hit some flats,” Doja wrote on Instagram. “I never get to sing like that, and what I did was brave and scary as fuck for me.”

Despite the challenges, she expressed gratitude.

“I know a lot of people didn’t like it, but a lot of people did, and I feel good that I pushed myself.”

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Raye concluded the tribute by performing her rendition of Adele’s “Skyfall,” a song from the 2012 James Bond movie of the same name.

The British singer acknowledged that she felt pressured to cover a song that Adele made famous since no one could sing Adele like Adele, but she did her best.

“It was so electric; we just have a beautiful chemistry, and I just love those girls,” she said about Lisa and Doja. “They’re so kind and hard-working and inspiring.”

The tribute paid tribute to Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, who were honored with Honorary Oscars at the Governors Awards, but some fans thought it fell short.

Many viewers were expecting an update on the next James Bond actor after Daniel Craig’s departure in 2021’s “No Time to Die.” Some fans thought the performances were good, while others referred to the tribute as “ordinary.”

The fact that the trio did not perform their own joint single, ‘Born Again’, further raised doubts about the tribute’s purpose.
