Paris 2024 Paralympics: Revenue From Media Rights Sales Has Increased By More Than 20%

A record number of the media particularly broadcasters from around the world are set to cover the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

With only a half year to go, Paris 2024 and the IPC has affirmed that Media Rights Holders in excess of 160 countries and territories have committed on covering the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games which open on 28 August 2024.

In addition to greater interest from broadcasters, the overall revenue raised from media rights sales has increased by more than 20 per cent compared to Tokyo 2020, a Games which were shown in 154 countries and territories to a cumulative 4.1 billion viewers.

Paris 2024 will leave a mark on the world as the first Paralympic Games to offer some live coverage from every one of the 22 games. At Tokyo 2020 19 games were broadcast, and at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games 15 games were shown live.

With the Paralympic Games getting back to Europe interestingly since London 2012, the interest from European media right holders is significant. In the host country, France TVs will telecast the Games, while Radio France and RMC have gotten radio rights.

How To Become A Paris 2024 Licensee

Channel 4 in the UK will screen its fourth successive summer Paralympic Games, while Infront who secured the European rights in 2021, have already achieved finalised coverage in a record 40 European countries for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

John Lisko, Managing Director of IPC Global Media Rights also added:

“According to Nielsen, interest in the Paralympic Games in the last eight years has more than doubled and this has been reflected by Media Rights Holders and their increased commitments.

“It is clear that the sensational improvement in athletic performances we have witnessed in the last decade, combined with the growing depth of talent and competition across all 22 sports, is leading to greater interest from viewers, and broadcasters who are now placing an even greater value on the Games.

“Our objective between now and the opening of the Games is to engage and secure even more media rights holders. We want to give every person on this planet the opportunity to consume and enjoy the Paralympic Games whether that be through traditional TV, streaming, social platforms, digital content, or radio.

The Paris Paralympic Games will take place between 28 August and 8 September 2024.
