After a dramatic extra-time victory over France at the Parc des Princes, Spain are the 2024 Olympic Champions. They defeated France in an eight-goal thriller to win the trophy (5-3 on penalties).
Spain is now the men’s Olympic football champion for the second time in their history.
Sergio Camello, a substitute, was the hero in extra time, defeating Guillaume Restes with two superb finishes to win a chaotic and captivating match.
Spain at first hoped to have won this final after 10 minutes in the first-half, in which Fermin Lopez scored two times before Alex Baena drifted a free kick into the net to place them in control in the final.
After just 12 minutes, Eric Millot’s shot through Arnau Tenas and into the far post gave France the lead.
France mounted a blending rebound in the perishing minutes of the last part, with a goal from Maghnes Akliouche with 10 minutes to play and an injury-time penalty from Jean-Philippe Mateta pulling Les Bleus level at 3-3.
This triumph gives Spain gold in the men’s football competition for the first time since 1992 when they won before their home crowd in Barcelona.
