Paris 2024: Super Falcons Of Nigeria Out Of The Competition

Nigeria’s Super Falcons have been eliminated from the Paris 2024 Olympics following a 3-1 loss to Japan in their final Group C match on July 31 at the Stade de la Beaujoire in Nantes. They leave the Olympics with three games without a win.

The senior women’s football team of Nigeria needed a two-goal victory over Japan after suffering defeats against Brazil and Spain, who needed only a draw to advance.

After losing to Japan, the Nigerians were unable to make any difference. The Asians three first half goals from Maika Hamano (22nd minute), Mina Tanaka (32nd minute) and Hikaru Kitagawa (45’+5′) was sufficient to ‘kill’ the Super Falcons.

Midfielder Jennifer Echegini scored Nigeria’s consolation goal in the 42nd minute.
