EURO champions Spain defeated Uzbekistan 2-1 to kick off their men’s football Olympic campaign.
At the Parc des Princes in Paris, Spain won to begin their bid for gold in a tough game at Paris 2024.
Before Uzbekistan, runners-up at the 2024 AFC U-23 Asian Cup, scored from the spot through Eldor Shomurodov, Marc Pubill scored Spain’s first goal in the first half.
Spain took the lead again shortly after the hour mark, but only after Sergio Gomez’s 59th-minute penalty was saved.
Three minutes after the fact, Gomez set things right while scoring from 12 yards out, for all intents and purposes from the penalty spot he had recently missed from.
