President Mahama Orders Reinstatement Of The 62 Suspended Radio Stations

President John Mahama

More than 60 radio stations that were previously shut down for violating regulations must be restored immediately, under President John Dramani Mahama’s directive. After reviewing their circumstances, this directive was issued on Thursday, June 12, 2025.

The National Communications Authority (NCA) had suspended the affected stations for operating without proper frequency authorizations, in violation of Section 2(4) of the Electronic Communications Act, 2008 (Act 775).

The suspension of these stations was announced by Samuel Nartey George, Minister of Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations, who emphasized the importance of adhering to broadcasting regulations.

President Mahama, however, stepped in to address the shutdowns and gave the Ministry instructions to swiftly expedite the stations’ reinstatement and waive all fines imposed on them. Before complete restoration, the government has also given the stations a grace period to stabilize their operations.
