
President John Dramani Mahama listed many important projects and policy directions in his February 27, 2025, State of the Nation Address:
Commitment to Economic Stability: President Mahama emphasized a strategy to reset the economy and ease the sufferings experienced by Ghanaians as part of his commitment to addressing the economic issues left over from the previous administration.
Reduction of Government Expenditure: In an attempt to simplify government operations and cut expenses, he announced a major cut of 60 ministers and deputy ministers, including regional ministers.
Women’s Development Bank: The president announced intentions to create a specialized bank that will provide low-interest loans and customized financial services to women-led enterprises.
Implementation of Affirmative Action: He reiterated the government’s commitment to upholding the Affirmative Action Act, 2024 (Act 1121), which aims to provide a 30% quota for women in political appointments, with 23.21% of positions now held by women.
Improvement of the Free Senior High School Program: President Mahama pledged to strengthen Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), handle overcrowding, and finish off unfinished infrastructure projects in order to improve the Free Senior High School program.
Job Creation and National Apprenticeship Programs: He launched the “Adwumawura Programme” and the “National Apprenticeship Programme,” which aimed to generate employment and give 10,000 youth employable skills in the unorganized sector.
Railway Sector Revitalization: In collaboration with the business sector, the government intends to renovate the Western Railway Line, improving the transportation of bulk goods and minerals to Takoradi Port and offering passenger services along the Western route.
National Airline Establishment: With the goal of lowering fares and dismantling monopolies on certain routes, efforts are being made to establish a national airline through open partnerships.

Free Primary Healthcare Programme: In addition to establishing the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (MahamaCare) to treat non-communicable diseases, the President announced intentions to implement a Free Primary Healthcare Programme to remove financial barriers to accessing basic healthcare.
Fighting illicit Mining (Galamsey): To combat the environmental damage brought on by illicit mining, a proactive strategy that prioritizes law enforcement, stakeholder involvement, and alternative livelihood initiatives was announced.
President Mahama’s dedication to social justice, infrastructure development, economic recovery, and environmental sustainability is shown in these efforts.
