Priyanka Chopra has spoken about how it felt to leave her job as a well-known actress to enter a new industry. The actress has opened up about learning on the job when she began her career.
Priyanka Chopra’s solid foundation as an actress and artist in two of the world’s largest film industries has earned her a worldwide reputation. The 40-year-old has now disclosed that she did not attend any acting school and learned everything on the job.
During a Podcast show, Chopra discussed how she got into the industry with no experience, information, or acting education. She said,
“I didn’t have the experience of the movie industry or the glamour industry or entertainment at all. At that time, it was just instinctual, and my instinct just told me, I’ve got to learn, I’ve got to observe, I’ve got to see where I am, and just survive… I never went to acting school. I learned on the job.”
While the 40-year-old became wildly successful in Bollywood, the actress was just not fulfilled. Chopra ventured into Hollywood, an obscure industry, and began without any preparation. She built everything from the ground up, and she became a global superstar with great success.
“It was a big risk. You know, I had a relatively relevant career in India, [but] I was compelled to pivot and come to the States,” she said, referring to the treatment she received from the Hindi film industry simply because she was an outsider.
“And so success—and my relationship with success and what it means—has been different at different times, as it is with everyone,” Chopra added.
The actress repeatedly broke barriers by, among other things, becoming the first South Asian woman to host a primetime American television show, winning People’s Choice Awards, appearing on multiple international magazine covers, serving as a global ambassador, working for UNICEF on a global scale, starring in a multimillion-dollar series, and achieving pay parity.
