Prof. Appiah Amfo Takes On A Big Global Role As WUN Partnership Board Vice-Chair

The Worldwide Universities Network (WUN) Partnership Board has elected Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, Vice-chancellor of the University of Ghana, as its vice-chair. The announcement was made at a number of high-level events organized by the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) in Hong Kong.

University leaders from all around the world convened at the WUN Presidents Forum and associated governance workshops to discuss strategic academic partnerships and the changing role of higher education institutions.

Professor Amfo was a panelist at the first roundtable discussion of the WUN Presidents Forum, which had as its theme_”Navigating Society’s Expectations of Universities and Meeting Obligations.” She discussed the University of Ghana’s approach to stakeholder collaboration, community engagement, and using research to advance society.

Additionally, Prof. Amfo participated in the WUN Partnership Board’s business meetings, helping to make strategic choices that will influence the network’s future course. Her selection as vice-chair demonstrates the university’s strategic focus on collaborating and interacting with foreign academic institutions in order to make a global influence.

Regarding the new position, Prof. Amfo said her election was

“a responsibility I embrace with purpose and humility,”

According to her, it reaffirms the university’s dedication to fostering international collaborations and promoting significant research.

The Vice-Chancellor strengthened the University’s institutional outreach and diaspora networks by interacting with Ghanaian researchers and students who were residing in the area when she was in Hong Kong.

She thanked WUN and CUHK for their wonderful hospitality and for their excellent organisation that detailed the importance of international collaborations in achieving the University’s vision of becoming a world-class research-intensive institution.
