The 2024 Bawumia Campaign Team’s Director of Communications, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has accused University of Ghana political science professor Ransford Gyampo of actively pursuing a position in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.
According to Aboagye, Professor Gyampo recently switched his allegiance to the National Democratic Congress (NDC), despite having considerable access to the NPP government.
Discussions over Professor Gyampo’s political connections and the relationship between Ghanaian academia and political organizations have been triggered by these accusations. Professor Gyampo has not yet addressed these allegations in public.
At the moment, Professor Gyampo serves as the Ghana Shippers Authority’s (GSA) acting CEO. Kwesi Baffour Sarpong, who was nominated by the previous administration in December 2024, was replaced by President John Dramani Mahama.
He is well-known in Ghana for his candid opinions on politics, democracy, and government. Gyampo has been actively involved in political commentary and analysis and is a senior lecturer and researcher in the university’s Political Science Department.
He has regularly spoken for accountability, transparency, and good governance while criticizing political parties and government policies. His opinions have generated discussions and occasionally conflict over the years. He nevertheless continues to play a significant role in Ghanaian politics.
