On Friday, 1 April 2022, 19:00 (local time), it was a beautiful ceremony in Doha-Qatar. An event that blew away the world in style. It was the last draw of the forthcoming FIFA World Cup in Qatar not long from now (November 2022).
The event was featured by the absolute most prominent names in football, who were all present to be a part of the fixtures of the approaching World Cup.
While 29 countries can now envision their journey all the way to the final, the remaining eight (8) of the teams will battle for the last three spots at the playoff games in June 2022.
Hosted by the award winning actor Idris Elba and prestigious sports broadcaster Reshmin Chowdhury, the show dazzled the crowd with shocking references to the Arab culture and astounding demonstrations that included the unveiling of the Official Mascot La’eeb™ and the launch of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ Official Soundtrack, with the main live performance of the single tune Hayya Hayya (Better Together) by Trinidad’s Cardona, Davido and Aisha.
The draw was attended by 2,000 guests and led via Carli Lloyd, Jermaine Jenas and Samantha Johnson, who were assisted by Cafu (Brazil), Lothar Matthaus (Germany), Adel Ahmed MalAllah (Qatar), Ali Daei (IR Iran), Bora Milutinovic (Serbia/Mexico), Jay-Jay Okocha (Nigeria), Rabah Madjer (Algeria) and Tim Cahill (Australia).
The Draw ( Countries and their respective Groups).
Meanwhile, the 2022 World Cup is taking place in Qatar in the winter months rather than the usual summer ones, due to the heat.
The tournament kicks off on Monday November 21 at the Al Bayt stadium in Al Khor when hosts Qatar take on Ecuador at the Al Bayt Stadium.
The final game of the tournament will be played at the Lusail Stadium in Doha a week before Christmas on Sunday December 18.
The intercontinental play-offs will be contested on 13-14 June in Qatar with Australia or UAE or Peru plus Costa Rica or New Zealand taking the two remaining places.
UEFA and Intercontinental play-offs:
Wales vs Scotland or Ukraine
Australia or United Arab Emirates vs Peru
Costa Rica vs New Zealand
Because Scotland and Wales have been pitched in the same path, it means Scotland and Wales will play each other for a place at next year’s World Cup if Scotland progress past Ukraine in their delayed play-off semi-final.
The 2022 World Cup will feature 32 teams in eight groups of four.
FIFA has confirmed the first two rounds of matches will kick off at 1pm, 4pm, 7pm and 10pm local time (10am, 1pm, 4pm and 7pm in the United Kingdom).
Kick-off times in the final round of group games and knock-out round matches will be at 6pm and 10pm local time (3pm and 7pm UK time).
