Rema’s “Calm Down” Is the First African Song To Reach 1 Billion On-Demand Streams

Nigerian singer Divine Ikubor, aka Rema, made history by becoming the first African song to reach 1 billion on-demand Streams in the United States.

“Calm Down” has received over 1 billion on-demand streams in the United States, according to Chart Data from the TAmerican Music Stats Company.

Chart Data tweeted,

“REMA’s “Calm Down” becomes the first Afrobeats song to earn over 1 billion on-demand streams in the US.”

“Calm Down remix,” featuring Selena Gomez, became the first African song to reach a billion streams on Spotify in August 2023.

Guinness World Records also recognized the original version of “Calm Down” as the world’s first number one song on the MENA regional streaming chart.
