On February 26, 2025, the Supreme Court of Ghana denied a review application that contested the constitutionality of the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, also referred to as the anti-LGBTQ+ bill, which was passed by Parliament.

Following the petitioner Richard Dela Sky‘s withdrawal of the application through his attorney Paa Kwasi Abaidoo, the application was dismissed.

After the withdrawal, the case was formally ruled out by the nine-member review panel, which was presided over by Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie. The court was not pleased with Sky’s absence from the hearings, though.

The Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill aims to make it illegal in Ghana to advocate for, support, and promote LGBTQI+ rights. It would penalize people and organizations who support LGBTQI+ efforts if it were to become legislation.

The bill has generated national discussion; proponents claim it preserves moral and cultural values, while opponents claim it violates human rights and may result in persecution and discrimination.
