Rolls-Royce and Lürssen, a shipyard group based in Bremen, Germany, are now collaborating even more closely on the refitting of yachts.
These two premium partners have joined forces to develop the international refit market together.
Rolls-Royce’s Power Systems division and Lürssen Yacht Refit & Services have now signed a framework agreement that regulates the co-operation in the overhaul of mtu propulsion systems and will further improve the service for yacht customers.
Rolls-Royce mtu propulsion systems are frequently found on many of Lürssen’s world-class yachts.
Lürssen offers its discerning customers comprehensive refit solutions for overhaul, modernization, and conversion of yachts up to almost 200 meters in length in addition to new construction.
Refits are carried out, for instance, only if scheduled dry docking or when a new owner requests that the interior be altered to meet his needs.
In addition, a yacht refit provides an opportunity to incorporate cutting-edge technologies into the propulsion system for long-term ship operation, thereby contributing to the energy transition.
For a number of years, the technicians at Lürssen Yacht Refit & Services and the skilled Rolls-Royce technicians have collaborated closely and successfully on the overhaul of yacht mtu propulsion systems, from the engine to the mtu NautIQ ship automation system.
The current agreement reorganizes cooperation, speeds up processes, simplifies procedures, and establishes common standards.
As a result, overhauling engines and propulsion systems, most notably mtu Series 4000 engines, will take significantly less time.
The framework agreement also ensures faster and more flexible deployment of Rolls-Royce specialists at the shipyard and better availability of spare parts.
Rolls-Royce Makes Huge Sales In 2023 – The Highest Recorded In Its History
At the same time, Lürssen technicians will be specially trained to carry out certain work on mtu engines in accordance with specified Rolls-Royce standards.
The conditions for expediting the refit and handing over the ship to its owner are being created by both partners through this package.
This partnership between the two premium suppliers of yacht construction and propulsion creates unique conditions to play a major role in a highly attractive international market – and is fully in line with our strategic focus to strengthen the marine business.
