Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed the next goal that he wants to reach before retiring from football.
On Wednesday, August 28, Ronaldo granted an interview to Rio Ferdinand that was posted on his brand-new YouTube channel.
In the interview, Ronaldo talked about how much he wants to score one thousand goals, an achievement that only a select few players have ever accomplished.
However, according to numerous sources like the Rec. Sport, Soccer Statistics Foundation, no player has ever scored as many goals as Brazilian legends Romario and Pele, who scored 772 and 767 goals, respectively.
In the mean time, Ronaldo scored the 899th goal of his career in Al-Nassr’s win over Al Feiha on Tuesday with a dazzling shot, denoting his 64th goal from free kicks.
Talking about his objective, the 39-year-old said:
‘I feel good, I think I’m still good looking [laughs]. I feel like I can still dribble, shoot, score goals, jump…’
The goal he scored on Tuesday left him with only 101 goals in his career.
However, the 39-year-old superstar demonstrates a significant “difference” from former footballers who have accomplished this feat.
Cristiano Ronaldo Breaks Record After Officially Launching His YouTube Channel
‘The day I feel like I’m not producing anything, not giving anything, I’ll pack my things and walk away [from football]. But right now, I still feel like I’m far from that day.’
‘First, I want to reach 900. Then I want to reach 1000, but with one difference: there will be videos of all the 1000 goals I score so I can prove that I scored,’ added Ronaldo with a claim about the lack of video proof of Pele’s and Romario’s goals.
Additionally, Ronaldo addressed the criticism he received for failing to score at the 2024 European Championship.
The striker continued,
‘I scored 60 goals last season. But people say: “Ah, but you didn’t even manage to score five goals in the European Championship”.
‘So what? What’s the problem? I’ve already scored 130. I’m the greatest goalscorer in the history of football.
‘But I’m going to raise the bar even higher. Soon, I’ll have 900 goals. And after that, I’ll reach 1,000 goals. I want to reach that mark.
‘How old will I be then? Maybe 41, I don’t know,’ claimed the Portuguese amid the discussions on his retirement after he previously revealed his retirement plans.
Regardless, the 39-year-old has hinted that he isn’t thinking about draping up his boots in the next three years.
During the interview with Ferdinand, the striker also opened up on his out-pouring of feeling after his penalty miss in the Euro 2024 game against Slovenia:
‘I cried the day I missed the penalty, even though I thought Oblak made a fantastic save.
‘But let’s interpret it as I missed the penalty. When I cried, it wasn’t because I thought that if I missed it and Portugal were eliminated, the world would fall on me. It wasn’t because of that.
‘I felt sad for everyone who went to the stadium, especially my family, mother, children, and girlfriend.’
