After sharing a photo of himself and his family in front of a Christmas tree, Mohamed Salah received backlash from his Muslim followers.
The Muslim Liverpool player wrote “#MerryChristmas” as the photo’s caption.
Sala, his wife Magi, and their daughters Makka and Kayan were featured in the photo, smiling in front of their tree and a gingerbread man while wearing matching pajamas for a Christmas post.
Some Muslim fans were not pleased with this. While a section of them participated in the celebrations held during the Christian holiday, Muslims do not customarily celebrate Christmas.
The Egypt star received backlash from fans on Instagram and X after sharing the picture on his accounts.
‘You let me down bro,’ wrote one user on Instagram, where Salah shared the post to his 63.7million followers.
‘Delete this right now,’ posted another, while a third wrote: ‘At this point am just disappointed in you bro.’
Others, on the other hand, immediately defended the Liverpool player and wished him a happy Christmas season.
Another said:
‘We Muslim people look up to you and you do this in return,’ accompanied by three crying emojis.
One follower posted:
‘With all the warning you still go ahead and posted this shame pose of yours. May Allah guard you to the ryt part. For now on, I shall be unfollow you from all platform and also block you. You are disgraceful. I also stop to watch Liverpool match forever.’
Another wrote: ‘Mark my words you won’t score any goal till end of the season, for disrespecting our beloved prophet SAW and the entire Muslim community.’
Interestingly, one of them wrote:
‘Merry Christmas Mo. Ignore all these idiots. Hope you and your family have a well deserved holiday season.’
Another posted: ‘In what has become an annual tradition on Christmas Day, I read and enjoy the comments on post for an hour. Never disappoints.’

He obviously has no intention of slowing down, though, as this has become a family tradition.
