
The SDGs Action Summit 2024 was held at the Kempinski Hotel in Accra. Many dignitaries including African Heads of State, business leaders and captains of industry, the Pan-African development & policy institutions, thought leaders, & other influential stakeholders from across the African continent were at the event.
The two-day summit was on the theme: ‘From mid-point to success: recommitting, scaling up, and accelerating action on the SDGs’
The event was organized as a preliminary meeting for the UN Summit of the Future. It also provided a forum to consultation on committing once again, increasing and speeding up actions on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Through the sharing of ideas and experiences, the summit aimed to improve knowledge sharing by enhancing participants’ comprehension and awareness. It brought a pool of bits of knowledge and to drive accelerated SDGs implementation.
One of the Speakers of the event, CEO of Ghana Investment Promotion Centre, Yofi Grant, joined a panel of experts to discuss practical strategies to place the private sector at the centre of SDG Action, during the just-ended SDGs Action Summit.
GIPC’s boss shared insights into how the Centre carries out its mandate in alignment with three major SDGs:
• SDG 1 (no poverty)
• SDG namely SDG 1 (no poverty), SDG 8 (Decent jobs)
• SDG 17 (partnerships).
He spoke about the importance of attracting investments that will help the economy thrive, as well as the need for a thorough understanding of the SDGs in order to implement them effectively.
This Year’s Africa Facts Summit Will Be Held In Ghana
During his address, he spoke about Ghana’s remarkable accomplishment of being the first country to benchmark SDGs against their budgetary process, as well as other notable accomplishments such as the UNDP-SDG-SME Roadmap, which highlights SME businesses and guides investors on viable and sustainable investments.
The 2024 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Action Summit came off from Tuesday July 2 – to Wednesday, July 3, 2024.
Members of the panel included: Abena Osei Poku (MD, Ecobank), Chief Alhassan Andani (Chairman, LVS Africa), Roslyn Ng’eno (Senior Investment Expert, AfCFTA), Dr Theophilus Acheampong (Economist & Risk Analyst), and Leticia Browne (Head of Markets, Inclusion and Advocacy, Zeepay).
