Coldplay frontman Chris Martin took a hard fall during a performance in Australia but emerged from a hole in the stage, seemingly unharmed.
Video of the incident showed Martin addressing the crowd at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium on Sunday, wandering around during a break in a song, then suddenly disappearing from view.
His fall was seemingly broken up by someone below the stage, and Martin quickly returned to a standing position.
“That’s uh, not planned. Thank you for catching me, so much. Thank you, guys. Holy sh*t, that was nearly a YouTube moment,” said Martin after coming out of the hole.
Martin then carried on with the show, marking Coldplay’s fourth and final performance in Melbourne as part of their Music of the Spheres World Tour.
The first show in town also took an unwelcome turn, with bassist Guy Berryman absent due to illness.
In an Instagram post, Coldplay said,
“Tonight was the first time in our band’s history that we’ve played a show without all four members onstage”
The band will next play four shows in Sydney before moving on to Auckland, New Zealand.
The tour will end with 10 shows at London’s Wembley Stadium, starting on August 22 2025.

Martin’s accident comes after a similar incident with singer Olivia Rodrigo at a recent concert at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena.
The US pop star was running around the stage, lit only by a spotlight, when she suddenly fell into a hole and appeared to catch herself with her arms.
