Soccer Great, Abedi Pele Appointed As A CAF Ambassador

The 2025 CAF African Schools Football Championship, which will be held in Accra from April 21 to April 26, 2025, has named Ghanaian football great Abedi Ayew “Pele” as its ambassador.

Abedi Pele’s important achievements to African football and his dedication to developing new talent around the continent are acknowledged by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) with this appointment. ​

Abedi Pele will be instrumental in promoting the competition and motivating the young players in his capacity as an Ambassador. With national school teams from 46 countries competing, the event seeks to highlight the skills of young football players from throughout Africa.

The University of Ghana Stadium in Legon will host the event, which will highlight fair play, identifying potential, and using sport to teach principles. ​

It is anticipated that Abedi Pele’s attendance will motivate players and showcase African school football’s potential. ​

CAF’s dedication to using the knowledge and clout of African football legends to support youth development and the expansion of the sport on the continent is reflected in this appointment.​

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has also named Asamoah Gyan, Ghana’s all-time top scorer, as one of its ambassadors for the 2025 CAF African Schools Football Championship.

Alongside Abedi Pele and others, Gyan will help promote the event and inspire young people to play football around the continent.

Dr. Patrice Motsepe, president of CAF, stressed the value of African football superstars participating in young competitions to motivate the next generation.
