Two African legends have applauded Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen for his mind blowing input in their win against Cameroon in the round of 16 of the ongoing AFCON.

These ex-football stars watched the game as Nigeria dealt with the Indomitable Lions at the Stade Felix Houphouet-Boigny in Abidjan on Saturday.

Nigeria’s legend Sunday Oliseh and Ghana’s legend Asamoah Gyan were exceptionally dazzled with Osimhen’s showcase in the game.

Despite Osimhen failing to score on the day, his commitment to the win was remarkable. Ademola Lookman’s two goals were all Nigeria expected to send Cameroon out of the tournament.

The Napoli striker broke the gridlock against the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon with his remarkable assist that led to the first goal.

Besides that, Osimhen also ensured he held up play splendidly, squeezing the opponent’s middle backs, and aiding his own guard during set-pieces.

For 1994 AFCON-winning star Sunday Oliseh, those characteristics, as well as Osimhen’s passion and energy, put the Napoli striker aside as the Super Eagles’ top man.

“Victor Osimhen! Victor Osimhen!! Extremely impressed not only by his offensive runs, defensive work but even on corner-kicks against, tormenting of the Cameroonian defence, but mostly by his leadership and hunger to win! Bravo to our African Ballon D’or,” Oliseh wrote on Twitter.

Ghana’s record-breaking highest goalscorer, Asamoah Gyan, was also satisfied with Osimhen’s outright showcase.

Refering to Osimhen’s passion on the pitch, Gyan, whose country failed to make it past the group stage, implied that any country would be pleased to have the Nigerian striker in their team.

Gyan wrote on X:

“Osimhen plays with passion. That’s what every country wants their players to do.”

On record, Nigeria have now crushed Cameroon’s at the Round-of-16 phase in two of the last three editions of the AFCON.

With the most recent win, Nigeria booked their spot in the quarterfinals of Cote d’Ivoire 2023, where they will face Angola.

The Palancras Negras also pulled a 3-0 win over Namibia on Saturday.
