Although Elon Musk’s social media platform X was recently banned in Brazil, this has raised the profile of its smaller rival, Bluesky, as people look for other ways to express themselves.
Bluesky claims that it had attracted two million new users in a week. The app has, of course, experienced a few performance issues because so many people are having trouble signing up. However, the massive traffic on the App has increased.
Additionally, the company stated that Brazil-based users were exceeding previous activity records.
Following a recent nationwide ban of the X platform by a justice of the Brazilian Supreme Court, the platform’s traffic is said to have increased. Three days later, a panel of the Supreme Court upheld the decision.
Interestingly, X stated that it would not comply with Brazilian court orders regarding its content moderation policies or a request to appoint a new legal representative in the country in response to the ban.
According to local media, the judge, Alexandre de Moraes, has also ordered daily fines for businesses and individuals in Brazil who use VPNs or other methods to access X while it is banned.
Brazil is thought to have more than 22 million X users.
Diddy Was One Of The Investors Who Helped Elon Musk Bring X Back In 2022— New Document Reveals
Bluesky was the most popular free app on Brazil’s iOS App Store as of Wednesday, September 4, followed by Threads, an X-alternative developed by Meta Platforms, the company that also owns Facebook and Instagram.
Bluesky was first announced in 2019 as a project to create an open, decentralized social protocol with support from Jack Dorsey, the founder of Twitter, which Musk bought and rebranded as X. In 2021, Bluesky became its own business. This year, Dorsey ended his relationship with the platform.
Bluesky, Threads, and Mastodon, an open-source, decentralized network, have been trying to take over from X as the best platform for microblogging.
These businesses have seen an increase in users as a result of the controversies surrounding Elon Musk’s takeover of Twitter in 2022 and subsequent modifications to the platform.
Last month, Bluesky’s signups from the UK were said to have increased significantly, and Musk had made contentious remarks about the country’s riots.
However, despite reports that advertisers and some users have left X, none of the alternatives have emerged as a credible threat to the platform.
Instagram head Adam Mosseri wrote in an August post on Threads that the closest competitor was Threads, which has over 200 million monthly active users.
In a post in May, Musk stated that X had approximately 300 million daily active users and 600 million monthly active users.
