John Motso, a BBC football commentator, has passed away at the age of 77. The legend covered 29 FA Cup finals, 10 World Cups, and 10 European Championships. For fifty years, John Motson was one of the most well-known voices in British sports.
A statement released by Motson’s family on Thursday read,
“It is with great sadness we announce that John Motson OBE died peacefully in his sleep today”
From 1968 to 2018, Motson, better known as “Motty,” was a commentator for Britain’s national broadcaster.
According to the BBC, he televised nearly 2,500 games.

Motson was commonly known with wearing a sheepskin coat in the commentary box, as well as his passion for and knowledge of football.
Motson was awarded the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2001 for his contributions to sports broadcasting.
“Match of the Day” host and former England striker Gary Lineker posted on Twitter,
“Deeply saddened to hear that John Motson has died”.
“A quite brilliant commentator and the voice of football in this country for generations. He’ll be very much missed.”
