According to actor George Clooney, the United States President should give up on his next presidential ambition in order to save democracy.
On Wednesday, July 10, the actor wrote an opinion piece in the New York Times urging President Joe Biden to withdraw from the presidential race.
He stated that Democrats have “opted to ignore every warning sign” and that Biden, like a number of other Democratic celebrities who have stopped supporting the president, could save democracy by withdrawing.
Clooney stated that although Biden has “won many of the battles he’s faced,” he cannot win “the fight against time.” Clooney also stated that while he regards Biden as a friend, the president is no longer the Biden of 2010.
“Our party leaders need to stop telling us that 51 million people didn’t see what we just saw”.
“As Democrats, we collectively hold our breath or turn down the volume whenever we see the president, who we respect, walk off Air Force One or walk back to a mic to answer an unscripted question,” Clooney wrote.
He mentioned Biden’s poor performance in the debate nearly two weeks ago.
Meanwhile, on Monday, actor Rob Reiner also announced that he would no longer support Biden, writing in a post on X:
“Biden has effectively served US with honor, decency and dignity,” but it’s time for him to step down, adding: “if the Convicted Felon wins, we lose our Democracy.”
Some celebs including producer, extremist and Disney beneficiary Abigail Disney are certain Democrats will lose in November 2024 if Biden goes against previous President Donald Trump.
Reed Hastings, a co-founder of Netflix, called on Biden to resign in a July 3 New York Times article. Hastings gave $100,000 to Biden’s campaign and about $1.5 million to Biden’s first campaign.
“Biden needs to step aside to allow a vigorous Democratic leader to beat Trump and keep us safe and prosperous.”
Clooney has been a steadfast supporter of Biden throughout his first campaign and term, but earlier this year, he had a row with the president over his criticism of the International Criminal Court’s decision to request arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and defense minister Yoav Gallant, which Clooney’s wife, Amal Cloonery, is said to have worked on.

Biden called the request “outrageous” and said the warrants did “nothing to help, and could jeopardize, ongoing efforts to reach a ceasefire.” The Washington Post reported George Clooney took issue with Biden’s use of the word “outrageous” and called a counselor to the president, to express concern.
Calls for Biden to withdraw from the race began and have continued to grow following his poor performance in a debate against Trump at the end of June.
While discussing, Biden seemed to misplace his thought process various times, sounded feeble and adjusted himself at a point, deteriorating fears about the president’s age and capacity to govern for an additional four years.
At a rally the following day, Biden acknowledged his poor performance by stating:
“I know I’m not a young man, to state the obvious … I don’t debate as well as I used to.” He has continued to resist calls for him to drop out, reportedly telling campaign staff in a call “I’m in this race to the end” and telling Democratic lawmakers in a letter he has had “extensive conversations” to hear concerns, but that he “wouldn’t be running again if I did not absolutely believe I was the best person to beat Donald Trump in 2024.”
