The July 2, 2025, debut of singer Tems’ ‘Leading Vibe Initiative‘ is a significant milestone in assisting young women in the music industry.

The Leading Vibe Initiative: What is it?

Grammy-winning musician Tems (Temilade Openiyi) developed this pan-African mentorship and empowerment initiative with the goal of closing the gender gap in music by giving young women access to resources, education, connections, and visibility.

Among the initiative’s goals are:

  • Support emerging female music professionals—artists, songwriters, producers, and engineers.
  • Offer intensive programs including workshops, masterclasses, studio sessions, and mentorship led by top creatives and industry executives.
  • Deliver advanced production access—via a partnership with Native Instruments—for hands-on learning and creative growth.

The First Edition will be in Lagos, August 8–9, 2025. It is open to Nigerian women aged 18–35 working in music.

Application deadline: July 13, 2025, via Leading Vibe Initiative (leadingvibe.com/initiative).

There are plans to expand across Africa and eventually globally.

Inspired by her experience as a self-taught artist in a male-dominated industry, she said:

“My goal with the Leading Vibe Initiative is to help discover and support talented young women who have the potential to redefine the industry. It’s a movement… a wave built for women, by women, from the continent to the world.”, Tems stated.

In general, women make up just 22% of artists, 12.8% of songwriters, and 3% of producers worldwide.

By giving a new generation of female artists the necessary tools and chances, this project seeks to rectify that imbalance.
