Since its launch in the 1989–1990 academic year, the MIT $100K Entrepreneurship Competition has been a prestigious, student-managed business plan contest that has launched over 160 companies, created over 4,600 jobs, and secured over $1.3 billion in venture capital funding.
Teams with at least one full-time MIT student have participated in the competition, which is divided into three separate contests held throughout the academic year:
Pitch: During this first stage, which usually takes place in September, contestants get the opportunity to make a 90-second pitch to a group of knowledgeable judges. With a $5,000 Grand Prize and a $2,000 Audience Choice Award up for grabs, it is a chance to hone concepts and get insightful feedback.
Accelerate: This stage, which takes place in March, is all about prototyping. A budget, resources, and coaching are given to semi-finalists so they can build their prototypes. Twelve exceptional teams compete for a $10,000 Grand Prize and an Audience Choice Award in the process’s final event.
Semi-finalists in this competition must submit thorough business strategies in order to advance to the May grand finale. Finalists compete for the $100,000 Grand Prize by showcasing their projects in front of an audience.
The pitch phase for the 2025 tournament is already over. However, March 2025 is the date for the Accelerate phase, while May 2025 is the date for the Launch phase.
