The 2023 Asafotufiami Festival: The Excitement And More

The yearly Asafotufiami has peaked at Ada in the Greater Accra region of Ghana. The 2023 celebration is the 86th in a series.

The festival has consistently given a valuable chance to show hospitality and generosity by inviting guests from everywhere the world with solidarity, respect, and love both during and after the festival.

During this exceptional celebration by the Adas, the Chiefs and Queens who represent their various clans make a 4 kilometer venture from the Ada Lenobinya gardens to Luhuese where they perform rituals in the consecrated woodland to look for divine blessings from their progenitors. This year was no special case.

It was a lovely scene, as the Paramount Chief of Ada Nene Abraham Kabu Akuaku sat in state, and received greetings from the Sub-Chiefs at Lenobinya where he later led the entire Community to cleanse their feet in the Volta River, to wash away bad omens in the entire traditional area.

This year’s occasion hosted large number of people from numerous areas including top government official in Ghana. The President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo was the main guest who graced the occasion.

On Saturday August 5, President Akufo Addo joined the durbar of Chiefs and people of Ada in the celebration. The first man of the land exploited the event to honor the plea by the Paramount Chief of Ada Traditional Area Nene Abraham Kabu Akuaku , for the completion of the abandoned Kasseh- Ada -Foah road and the extension of the Sea Defense Project.

Asafotufiami is praised in the main seven day stretch of August. By and large, the Asafotufiami Celebration is a recognition of old conflicts with adjoining clans like the Ewes.

Asafotufiami is celebrated in the first week of August. Historically, the Asafotufiami Festival is a remembrance of ancient wars with neighboring tribes such as the Ewes.

The “Asafotu” are companies of warriors who fire their muskets in celebration. These days, the festival is a grand Homecoming for the Ada Diaspora.

Tons of people joined the festival, with an interesting inclination. From varying backgrounds, they made an appearance to assist with recognizing the 86th occasion.
