
Prof. Henry Kwasi Prempeh has been appointed by President John Mahama to head the group of legal governance experts who will be reviewing the 1992 Constitution.
In keeping with his promise to see the process through to the end, President Mahama established a constitutional review committee led by Prof. Henry K. Prempeh.
Prof. Henry Kwasi Prempeh, a Ghanaian lawyer and educator, is currently the executive director of the Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana).
The lawyer has an extensive educational background, having graduated with a B.Sc. Admin. from the University of Ghana and being a “son” of Yale Law School, Baylor University, and the University of Ghana. He earned a business administration master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) from Baylor University. In 1993, he graduated from Yale Law School, where he served Notes editor on the Yale Law Journal.
Prior to joining Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen, and Hamilton in Washington, D.C., he was employed at O’Melveny & Myers LLP. He became a board member of the newly established Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana) in 1998. From 2001 to 2003, he was the director of legal policy and governance.
Prof. Prempeh joined the faculty of Seton Hall University School of Law in Newark, New Jersey, in 2003. He obtained tenure there in 2008 and stayed until 2015. He served as a visiting professor at the recently founded Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) law school in Accra from 2010 to 2011.
He has written and consulted on the issues of constitutionalism, governance, legal policy, and democracy in Ghana and the rest of Africa. He was selected as a Reagan-Fascell Democracy Fellow by the National Endowment for Democracy in 2011. As of 2018, he was a member of the Ghana Law Reform Commission.

Additionally, he was named CDD-Ghana’sexecutivedirector on February 1, 2018, following the retirement of E. Gyimah-Boadi, the previous director.
