The ever-smiling Cuppy is one of the finest musicians in Nigeria. Yes!, she is from an affluent home, but the disc jockey and producer has consistently had the adoration for music, along these lines being in the equivalent showbiz industry as a DJ. The 27 year old artist whose real name is Florence Ifeoluwa Otedola, has been dynamic in the music business since 2013.
One would have imagined that with a degree in Business and Economics and a Masters Degree in music business from New York University in 2015, she would have towed that line of corporate administration jobs, but Cuppy simply cherishes music. Prior to settling on being a musician, she had proceeded as a DJ at significant events including top music award ceremonies.
In 2014, Cuppy was the resident DJ at the MTV Africa Music Awards in Durban, South Africa. She at that point played at the Tatler and Christie’s Art Ball in London, and at the Financial Times Luxury Summit in Mexico City. That equivalent year (July 2014), she released ‘House of Cuppy’ as her first compilation mix in London and Lagos, before propelling it in New York on September 2, 2014.
With ‘House of Cuppy’, she created EDM-esque remixes of melodies by driving afropop artists. She also launched the London-based music management and content production business, Red Velvet Music Group. Because of her authentic performance behind the console, she was featured on the front page of the Guardian Life magazine in January 2015.
The cover celebrated a new age of African women. In March 2015, Cuppy was named the official DJ for the 2015 Oil Barons Charity in Dubai, thus became the only African act to perform at the occasion. A month after the Dubai execution, she was included in the 2015 April and May issue of Forbes Woman Africa, which is a mind boggling accomplishment.
In August 2015, Cuppy set off on her first DJ tour to eight (8) urban areas in Africa, named “Cuppy Takes Africa”. She went to Nigeria, Senegal, Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Uganda and South Africa during this tour. This visit included performances, significant artist collaboration, and altruistic commitment upheld by GTB Bank and the Dangote Foundation (Nigeria). Soon thereafter, she interned at Jay-Z’s Roc Nation.
In October 2016, the “Cuppy Takes Africa” tour circulated on Fox Life Africa as a 8-scene narrative arrangement. She was also the resident DJ for MTV2’s Uncommon Sense with Charlamagne Tha God. In 2017, Cuppy released two tunes, “Vibe” and “The Way I am”, which showed up on the “Afrobeats” EP by Young Paris and was released on March 24, 2017.
Enough of the accomplishments. Delving into her music more, Cuppy first released her first official single ‘Green Light’ in 2013. Her second single ‘Vybe’ followed up in March 2018 which included Ghana’s rap whiz, Sarkodie. After five months, she again released her third official single which featured L.A.X. Cuppy, a short time later, came out with her fourth single ‘Werk’ in October 2018, which also featured Skuki.
On April 19, 2019, she teamed up with one of Ghana’s best artists, Kwesi Arthur for her fifth single ‘Abena’. That equivalent year, she came out with ‘Gelato’, her 6th single including Zlatan. Her conveyance on every one of her melodies is essentially fantastics. Perhaps, she has gathered such a great amount of experience from playing for top music acts globally. Cuppy is extremely proficient on her tunes and has never failed the crowd in any capacity undoubtedly.
This year (2020), Cuppy was enlisted into the Forbes Magazine’s 30 under 30 class, making her an exceptional character on the continent of Africa.
