According to a new ranking, the Tesla Model Y is the best-selling car in the world in 2024, securing market leadership (+3.6%). The Toyota Corolla and Toyota RAV4 will follow closely behind.
The report listed the world’s best-selling light commercial vehicles. Monthly aggregate data were collected for 162 countries.
New EV models are rising up the global leaderboard as the automotive industry shifts more and more toward electrification, despite the fact that traditional diesel and gasoline models remain at the top of the Top 100 Ranking.
The Tesla Model Y was still the market leader in 2024, according to the cumulative data from August 2024, with sales of 785,591 (+1.9%).
With 741,982 new sales, the Toyota Corolla came in second place (+3.8 percent).
With 673,050 sales (+19.5 percent), the Toyota RAV4 came in third, followed by the Ford F-Series with 572,062 sales (-4.9 percent).
The Chevrolet Silverado came in fifth with 486,143 sales, up 15.5%, followed by the Honda CR-V with 481,622 sales, up 11.3%, and the Hyundai Tucson, which fell one spot to fourth with 391,813 sales, down 2.5%.
The Toyota Camry came in eighth place with 360,398 new registrations, which is -11.2% more than the Toyota Hilux with 354,051 (-7.8%) and the Kia Sportage with 351,128 sales, which is up 4.9%.
